Mike Tuffrey

Mike TuffreyMike is one of the founding directors of Corporate Citizenship, having worked with companies on their responsible business practice since 1987. A chartered accountant by profession, his clients have included Unilever, HSBC and Centrica.

Among published work, Mike undertook a study for seven companies into employee community involvement, Employees and the Community: how successful companies meet human resource needs through community involvement. With David Logan, he co-authored two guidebooks on using the LBG model. In 1991, he founded Corporate Citizenship Briefing, which remains the leading journal for managers of social responsibility across the business.

In demand as a speaker, Mike has served as a judge for IR Magazine’s best annual report award, for the Charities Aid Foundation Company of the Year and on the IPPR public involvement awards panel. He was named by the Evening Standard as one of the 1000 most influential Londoners for his work on the environment.

Mike is active in local government, having served as a leader in an inner city London borough. He is currently an elected member of the London Assembly and serves on the London Sustainable Development Commission.

Mike graduated from Durham University with a degree in economic history and economics. After qualifying as an accountant with KPMG, his career has including being a director of a charity and working in Parliament as a researcher and speech writer.

In a volunteer capacity, Mike has acted as treasurer of Gingerbread, the lone parent charity, and chaired a care-in-the-community charity for people with a severe learning difficulty.

Married with a young family, Mike used to have a range of other activities and interests before kids and the mortgage took over.
