How ridiculous! a lot of mobile phones barely last the 12 months, so the 18 and 24 month contracts other providers are pushing us into are very unfair. Kudos to Tesco for not tying people into 2 YEAR deals :)

I totally agree. I saw the ad yesterday, designed in its 'basics' style as if to suggest austerity. The environmental cost of mobiles is huge because of the sheer number produced. I'll be writing to Tesco about this too.

I completely agree with you. I saw a documentary on BBC news on the making of coffee. Even though some companies label their products as fair trade, the farmer's salary is still lower than their living expenses.

And if the fair trade companies do pay them a "minimum wage" the prices are still too high that it might not become a long term solution.

Do you think that if their was a unified international trade policy that all countries must abide it would be a better solution?

Also, what is the human cost of being environmentally friendly? I know the benefits but I haven't found an article on the cost for us.

The message of the Office of the Third Sector Report published this week 'Building Stronger Communities Business and the Third Sector: Innovation in tough times' gives some glimmer of hope as to the state of business engagement in communities during the recession. For those who can remember the last recession when we saw a massive cutback in essentilally ophilanthropic support this is encouraging news. Money may not be plentiful and budgets are certainly being challenged but their is far more innovation and employee engagement than ever. However the depressing note is that many still don't know where to go to get involved and a sense that we are not making the most of the support because the partnership and infrastrucutre iis patchy. If you want to know more then get in touch with me at Corprate Citizenship.
