Shanghai shot

In the city that never sleeps, I’m here to talk sustainability and citizenship to a group of senior Chinese managers.  There’s appetite for the subject, but apathy too. With a business growing at 40% + p.a, it’s hard to convince them that anything other than business as usual is the way forward.  But they also acknowledge that rivers are dying, desert sands are advancing, factory workers are striking, and the State is not coping.  Business needs to play a part in finding the solutions.  As a healthcare provider, they are well positioned to do so. But the journey has only just begun.. As a well known former Chinese President once said of China’s early experiment with capitalism: ‘we must cross the river by feeling the stones’.. Well, we’ve just reached the first stone, and the river is wide.
