David Logan is Joint Chair of Corporate Citizenship with Amanda Jordan
My early career was with the British Trades Union Congress which I left to work on youth unemployment and community economic renewal in the voluntary sector. That is where I helped run a community owned business and came into contact with a range of companies that supported our work when government was making it difficult. I saw the value of what companies could do and 1980 I joined the Community Affairs staff of Levi Strauss & Co managing activities across Europe. I move to San Francisco and worked for the Social Responsibility and Ethic Committee of the company on a wide range of CSR issues around the world.
After leaving Levis consulted on CSR for several years, returned to the UK then started The Corporate Citizenship Company with Mike Tuffrey in 1997, to gear up for the rapidly emerging interest in the field which companies where showing in Europe and beyond. Business had become the driver of the global economy and it was seeking to define its role as a good corporate citizen in its own business and the total value chain around the world. I have been able to travel across five continents for our international clients, and see how business helps shape human society and culture around the globe, the power of business can be a force of good and I am still excited by the challenge of making that real and effective.
