Back in 2001, I emerged from Bath University with a brand new PhD in the still emerging field of corporate responsibility, wondering what to do next. Fortunately, I discovered the SMART Company and joined them as one of their first employees. Our wide range of clients, from The National Trust to Lloyds TSB, gave me a great insight into what CR meant out in the real world. Since then, we’ve seen some big changes in corporate responsibility and some big changes for our company. What hasn’t changed is the sense that companies and the people within them have real power and capacity to bring about positive change, both social and environmental, and being part of that has got to be one of the best places to be in the business world.
